Catch-up bookkeeping for behind businesses Dallas

Short answer: Falling behind on bookkeeping is common, but waiting makes it more expensive. It can lead to late tax returns, IRS penalties, missed deductions and decisions made without real numbers. Catch-up bookkeeping rebuilds your books from bank and card statements, so you can file accurately and move forward.

The real costs of waiting

Late filing and payment penalties

If you can't file because your books aren't done, penalties can add up. The IRS failure-to-file penalty is generally 5% of the unpaid tax for each month or part of a month the return is late, up to 25%. The failure-to-pay penalty is generally 0.5% per month, also up to 25%. Interest is charged on top.

Missed deductions

When records are rushed at the last minute, business expenses get missed. Every legitimate expense you can't find is a deduction you don't take.

Bad decisions

Without current numbers, it's hard to know if you can hire, raise prices or take on a loan. Lenders usually ask for up-to-date financial statements.

Texas filings slip too

Behind books often mean late sales tax returns or a missed Texas franchise tax report.

How catch-up bookkeeping works

  1. Gather statements. We collect bank, credit card and loan statements for every month that needs to be caught up.
  2. Record and categorize. Every transaction is entered and categorized.
  3. Reconcile. Each account is matched to its statement so nothing is missing or doubled.
  4. Fix what's broken. We correct errors from earlier bookkeeping, such as owner draws recorded as expenses or duplicate entries.
  5. Deliver tax-ready reports. You get a profit and loss statement and balance sheet for each year.

What you'll need

  • Online access to, or PDFs of, your bank and card statements
  • Loan statements and any major asset purchases
  • Your existing QuickBooks or Xero login, if you have one
  • Answers to a short list of questions about unclear transactions
